Congressman Fry Secures $28 Million for Ocean Outfalls and Stormwater Mitigation in North Myrtle Beach
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Fry announced that he secured $28 million from the U.S. Army Corps that will go towards funding for construction of ocean outfalls and stormwater mitigation projects in the City of North Myrtle Beach and the surrounding vicinity.
Earlier this month, Congressman Fry wrote a letter of support requesting funding for this project to the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works within the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The funding was authorized through the American Relief Act, 2025 signed into law on December 21, 2024. As a result, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced $1.515 billion in investments in projects across the United States. These funds support new and continuing construction of environmental infrastructure, flood control management, and coastal preparedness projects.
The City of North Myrtle Beach will receive funding throughout the course of three fiscal years:
- $500,000 in Fiscal Year 2025
- $25,000,000 in Fiscal Year 2026
- $2,500,000 in Fiscal Year 2027
“This funding is a major win for the City of North Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand. The construction of ocean outfalls along the coast of North Myrtle Beach will not only address immediate needs, but also build a foundation for long-term resilience and growth,” said Congressman Fry. “Projects like these that protect our coastlines and improve public safety will always remain a priority for me. I was proud to support this funding request and am looking forward to seeing the impact these improvements have in North Myrtle Beach.”
“The $28 million in Supplemental Environmental Infrastructure Funding allocated for the North Myrtle Beach Environmental Infrastructure Outfall Project is an important step forward in addressing our stormwater and flooding challenges. It reflects a strong commitment to improving infrastructure and protecting our community,” said North Myrtle Beach Mayor Marilyn Hatley. “On behalf of our entire community, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Congressman Russell Fry for his leadership and advocacy in securing this critical funding. His efforts have been instrumental in making this project possible. This funding will allow us to advance our work on the outfall project addressing long standing issues related to stormwater management and flood mitigation. These improvements are essential to the resilience of our city and the well-being of our residents and visitors.”
