Congressman Russell Fry (SC-07) Makes First House Floor Speech Urging Passage of Resolution Condemning Chinese Spy Balloon

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congressman Russell Fry (SC-07) made his first speech on the House floor urging the passage of H.R. 104 — a resolution condemning the Chinese Communist Party’s use of a high-altitude surveillance balloon over United States territory as a brazen violation of United States sovereignty. Congressman Fry is an original co-sponsor of this legislation which passed by a 419-0 vote.

I am proud that this resolution passed the U.S. House of Representatives with wide bipartisan support,” said Congressman Fry. “This brazen act by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) that resulted in the spy balloon being shot down off the coast of my hometown of Surfside Beach in the Seventh Congressional District, which I represent, was a blatant violation of American sovereignty as a part of a comprehensive surveillance program on the United States as well as other countries across the globe.

This resolution shows that the U.S. House of Representatives condemns the CCP’s efforts to deceive the international community with their false claims of intelligence collection and calls on this Administration to promptly and decisively act to prevent further surveillance attempts in the future.”
