Congressman Russell Fry (SC-07) Introduces Legislation to Rename Surfside Beach Post Office in Honor of Nancy Yount Childs

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congressman Russell Fry (SC-07) introduced legislation to rename the Surfside Beach, South Carolina Post Office in honor of Nancy Yount Childs. 

Childs was a dedicated public servant and accomplished law enforcement officer who spent her career protecting others. She was one of the first women to serve as a U.S. Capitol Police Officer, and when she retired from service, she held the esteemed rank of Inspector. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police for two decades. After retiring, Childs resided in Surfside Beach, South Carolina. 

This legislation would rename the United States Post Office located at 420 Highway 17 North in Surfside Beach, South Carolina, the “Nancy Yount Childs Post Office Building.”

“Nancy’s commitment to service and trailblazing accomplishments deserve to be honored and remembered,” said Congressman Russell Fry. “Renaming the Surfside Beach Post Office in recognition of Nancy is just one small way of showing our appreciation for her commitment. I am proud to introduce this legislation in honor of her service one year after her passing.” 

“Nancy was a dedicated wife, mother, and public servant,” said Bob Childs. “I'm incredibly grateful to Congressman Fry for recognizing Nancy with this distinct honor. It is comforting to know that her legacy will live on and that she will remembered by the Grand Strand community.”
